Meg's Veggie Page

A vegetarian is a person who doesn't eat meat. This includes poultry, red meat, fish and other sea food. Vegetarians still eat dairy products such as eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt and ice cream. Because of this they are often called lacto-ovo vegetarians.

I became a vegetarian when I was just 4 years old.  Before that, I had never had much taste for meat.  I would rarely eat any of it, once and a while I'd eat tuna or chicken, that was about it.  But I remember very clearly one day biting into a piece of chicken and it occurred to me that this was the same animal that walked around on the ground somewhere.  That made me sick.  I never again had any form of meat, fish, or poultry.  At that time, people couldn't believe a 4 year old girl would choose this at such a young age, but I did.
As I grew older, I knew a few other people my age that were vegetarians as well, but all of them that I could remember were vegetarians because everyone in their family was too.  My father isn't.  My mother now doesn't eat meat, but she does still eat fish.  But when I was younger she ate both.  She told me that before I was born she had not eaten any meat but she went back to both when she was pregnant with me.  But I had never known that until after I decided that being a vegetarian was the only way for me.
I wanted to make this page to make people aware that vegetarianism is not uncommon, in fact many more people than you think have chosen to be one.  I will be a vegetarian until the day I die because just thinking about eating meat and things like that still make me sick today.  I hope that people will read this, and maybe learn just one thing that they didn't know about being a vegetarian.
It's true, I would love for people to become vegetarians themselves if they aren't already, but I can't make that choice for people.  You can't force someone to do something like that, that is a very personal choice.  However, I do hope that people will take the time to look at this page and some of its links and decide for themselves.
