My Oasis Concert Experience
On January 8th, 1998, I went along with 3 of my friends, Kristen, Amanda, & Wendy, to an Oasis concert at the Sony Entertainment Center in Camden, NJ. We had a great time!
It was put on by one of our local radio stations Y100. We got there early because they were giving away backstage passes to people if you came out to their van before the show. We did and there was a decent sized group of people but it wasn't huge.

We were able to get right up in front next to the famous Y100 van and be right next to the DJs. We had painted our faces saying Y100 and Oasis to get their attention.. A lot of people did a lot more. One person had their entire face done in a British flag. There were some other good ones too. We didn't get any passes but they did take our picture for their website which is on the left here. |
So then we lined up and went inside. We saw some people there that we knew and it was fun to actually be there. We first washed off all the junk on our faces and arms and then we went and bought T-shirts. We all got the same shirt it was navy blue with the Be Here Now concert logo and it said Oasis of course and on the back it had the tour dates and info. It was pretty cool. This concert was their first one in the USA for the Be Here Now tour and they had just come from Canada. So that made it even cooler.
Then we got our seats. We were in the 2nd row in the 200 level. They weren't the greatest, but they weren't too bad. Finally it was time to start. The band opening for them was Cornershop. They were pretty good, but I didn't know there songs too well at the time. They played almost an hour. They played a lot longer than I thought they would. There was a short break after that, and Kristen and Wendy went out and got some cookies that we ate before things got started up again. Then the lights went down again.
Then Oasis came out. They were great. They played all my favorite songs and it was so great to actually see the band I liked so much. The music filled the room and everyone went crazy. Their set list went -

Be Here Now, Stand By Me, Supersonic, Some Might Say, Roll With It, D'You Know What I Mean?, Noel Solo: Don't Go Away & Heroes (by David Bowie), Don't Look Back in Anger, Wonderwall, Live Forever, Its Getting Better Man, Cigarrettes and Alcohol, Encore: Fade In-Out. |
No one wanted it to end, but soon it was time to leave. They didn't play very long, not like I thought they would, but I was happy just hearing them actually playing live.
Noel also did an interview with Y100 before the concert. I only wish I could have heard the entire thing but I only heard clips from it. From what I heard it was a pretty good interview. Doesn't he look so great sitting in Y100's studio? |

After the concert we went home and had to go to sleep when we got there because we had school the next day. Of course no one felt like going to school the next morning but we did. Over the next few days we wore our shirts to school and we saw other people wearing them too that had gone.
I hope that they come back soon on another tour, though I don't know how soon, if ever, that will happen. But if they do, you can bet that I'll be there.
