Articles & Stories

From: becky@dragnet.com.au (Rebecca Stokes) Some of us Beatles fans are moving on in years being born in Sydney Aust. in 1958.I remember sitting on my roof of my house when I was very young watching the Beatles plane fly over as it flew into Sydneys local airport. It was such an event just to be part of the whole memory. Some years later a lady who holidayed with us in the Snow told me of her days as an air hostess and in particular when she was chosen to work the plane the Beatles were travelling on around Australia. She spent most of her time talking with John and said he really was an incredible personality. This may have also been the time there was a problem with getting a drummer for the tour. She was fortunate enough to get quite a unique gift off John:: in typical Lennon style, she received a T.A.A.(an Aust. airline at the time)embossed brown paper 'SICK BAG" signed by all four; now considered quite a rare piece.Thank God none of them did'nt have to use it! On another occasion my best friend was walking along Palm Beach Sydney & came across a couple of lads who were reasonably well known around the planet, Paul & George. There was no one else around and here is my mate talking to possibly part of the most group of musicians the world will ever know. After talking with them for a while he did not even get a signature,, silly fellow, he said it just didn't feel right to ask they were having such a natter about anything but themselves. Well suppose, they would get tired of hearing about themselves all the time. My most treasured Beatles posession is a Bootleg Copy of the Beatles Black Album which appears to record the writing of the songs on Let It Be with them actually calling out the notes when working on Let It Be and working out various ways of playing it. A very interesting Album. With a lot of general chat. These days I like to listen to old Lennon melodies Such as "Working Class Hero" truly a classic and very representative of John at the time. Any how 'What Goes on ; Life Goes On' and no truer word was sung when we heard " There are places I'll remember all my life though some have changed" as with all things change is life but the memories even those of the Fab 4 will never change ........a magical era......very fond memories that will last & last & last Happy 1st Birthday, you did "say its your BIRTHDAY" didn't you Regards, The Walrus From: LucyInSky5 Beatle experiences??? Sure.....let me just tell you all about the best day of my life. It was the magical day of June 3rd that I sat in my classes with my friends as we watched the clock endlessly waiting for school to be over. As we passed each other in the halls and saw each other in classes we all exchanged radiant smiles and wishful glances that we were already there. The four of us had acquired 10th row tickets to see Ringo and his all starr band in concert that night. Maybe to some people this didn't seem like a big deal, but as devout fans hoping to capture some flashacks of the Beatlemania that we missed, it was the world. We drove the Garden State Arts center in my friends red convertible with the top down and Beatles music blasting. We were all shaking with excitement as we walked down to our groovey 10th row seats. When Ringo came out, let me tell you, I almost died. We all had to reming each other to keep on breathing. The second song that Ringo sang was Act Naturally...I have always concidered this my song for various reasons. Well....I could not handle it, I cried. And at that moment, it all became perfectly clear to me. For the first time I discovered for myself what it felt like to be one of those girls in A Hard Day's Night.....you all know who I'm talking about, the screaming, crying, crazy, delerious fans. And during the hours of that concert, I not only had the most fun I've ever had in my life, but my dream came true. Of course it doesn't compare to actually living druing the 60's, but we 90's kids have to take what we can get. I know I'll never be able to say that I went to a Beatle's concert, but at least I can say what me and my crazy friends announced around school the next day.....WE SAW A BEATLE!!!!! From: RollUp4MMT ok i got this article the other day on Paul and some guy named Helmut Kohl. Well Paul had sent this Kohl guy him and Linda's vegie cookbook VEGANISSIMO. In return Kohl sent Paul and autographed copy of his cookbook he wrote with his wife Hannelore called, EXCURSION THROUGH GERAMN LANDS. Paul returned the book wiht this note, "I am afaid it is much too full of meat dishes for our tastes, and we can't help thinking of the unnecessary suffering that must have inevitably have taken place for these recipes to reach you plate." YIKES! Kohl has had NO REPLY so far. ROTFLMAO! Hehehe. From: Taxgirl999 I'm writing about a recent experience, this just happened three days ago. I had just gotten home from school when I glanced at the mail- lo and behold, there was some mail for me! Whoever had written it spelled my last name wrong, though, so it could'nt be one of my friends... I turned the envelope over to look at the return address, and my mind went blank, then I realized that the letter was from Yoko Ono! I had written to her about a month ago. I shrieked a little, then ran to my room and opened the envelope. Inside it was a little form letter from Yoko's assisstant, but also a picture of John and Yoko signed to me personally by (duh) Yoko!! Needless to say, I was really excited. It was also the first time that anyone famous that I had written to had written back, which was cool in itself. That's my little story of a happy day! :) From: Beatle1195 I just got back from vacation and I'd like to share with you all the Beatle-related things I saw. First in Cleveland, The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. There I saw John's psychadelic Rolls Royce, handwritten lyrics to songs like "In My Life ", "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" "All You Need is Love", "Beautiful Boy" and "Starting Over". On display were, 2 of John's guitars ( His Rickenbacker from Shea Stadium and one from the Montreal and Amsterdam bed-in's with Yoko. He carved in drawings of them into the guitar!!!! I also saw, JL's Sgt.Pepper green coat, his wire-rimmed glassas, old report cards from Quarry Bank High School, the "Daily Howl" and his passport and green card. There was so much more there too, I definetly recommend it to any Beatle fan!!! Later, when I was in Tucson Arizona I visited Paul's house there. Not many people really know about it but since my aunt knows people in real-estate they gave her the adress. I took pictures of the gates and of part of his hous but it is really far back from the road and you can hardly see it. It was enough though to be so close to things of John's and things of Paul's!!!! Anyone can feel free to send me e-mail if you are curious!! Sara

Beatle Dreams

From: Jade324 Usually my dreams about the Beatles are short and dumb, but this one was pretty cool:I was living in Ireland and the Beatles were staying with my family for a little while. It was before they got really famous. Anyway they slept upstairs and I was upstairs talking to them, and Paul was telling us this really funny story and we were laughing so my family's maid (I don't really have one, but in the dream we did) started yelling at us and we were mimicking her and stuff. The next morning it was raining and we were having a little basketball game in their room, except there was no basket, so it was really just keep-away. We were playing against some little girls who were kind of mean. John was pretending to be playing football instead and we were all laughing at him and Paul tackled him. Then I woke up. My Dream

Hello. I would like to tell you and the members of Fab Four Forever about a Extroudarny exciting awsome dream I had(I'm not that great of a speller). Anyways.......here it goes: Well first off,I don't know where this dream started off. Anyways....I dreapt that Ringo Starr was my brother,John Lennon my Step-Brother and George Harrison,my cusion. And Paul McCartney was not relaited to us(it get's better don't worry.poor old paul isn't left out). So...one day while they were all recording and I was watching them, along with Brian E,and their producer George Martin. We were getting into the music, and them for some reason I got the giggles. Then I got John to start laughing, and then everyone was laughing. So they decided to take a little break and we all went out for dinner(yes brian & george came along too). Then we got out to eat,and my dream comes to the part in HELP! where the bealtes are at that little place and john find a seaon ticket in his soup(you get the idea) Then after that we go back to the Studio. And we fooled around with Ringo's Drums and he got all mad and then we all started laughing, even Ringo. So about a week goes by,and like nothing happens. So when that week went by,the next day they had a concert. And Paul(who i had a crush on my whole life) dedicates this song to me,and i thought it would be HELP! because they were always joknig around like i needed help. But it wasn't. It was And I Love Her and then after the song, paul ask's me out(cool huh?) So we got out for 6yr's and then we end up getting married:o) From: BeatleLEAH I had a dream once that I was in an elevator, and so was this other lady. She was wearing a red dress and I was wearing a shirt that said "John Lennon, for ever" on it, and I had just come from a store called "Past and Presents" with a Beatles poster in my hand and a Beatle's coffe mug, one more John Lennon shirt, and Beatle pens. All of a sudden, John, Paul, George, and Ringo stepped on. I was goind hysterical in my mind, but they didn't see me and my John Lennon shirt in the back of the elevator. The lady said "Are you who I think you are?" They nodded, saying "Shh! We don't want people knowing we're here." The lady nodded. "Well I'm a real big fan of yours! Can I have your autograph?" She asked. They gave it to her, and started carrying on a conversation. Then the lady got off the elevator on her floor. Then I said "hi" to them. We became great friends and I went shopping with them all the time. We had family get-togethers alot and we were always friends. Then my Mom and Dad told me I should go into elevators alot, since I met the beatles there, you never know who i mite see next. The last thing I remember in my dream was that I was doing what my parents told me to, in an elevator, and then I saw bill Clinton. From: RollUp4MMT I've had a bunch of Beatle dreams . Well Here goes with the first the others will come later. #1 I was at this ballet rehearsal . I started walking inside when I heard some screams. I turned around and it was like a double image. The ballet girls were there but faint and I saw about 500 screaming kids behind a fence. I also heard a helicopter so I turned around and sure enough a helicopter was landing. I looked in the window and saw four men with mop tops. It just dawned on me that it was The Beatles in that helicopter. I totaly freaked inside but just smiled really big outside. I wanted to scream but I knew that if I did my chances at talking with them would be through. so I kept my mouth shut and just stood there. The helicpoter landed and they got out. the first was Ringo and he just barely noticed me, the second was John and he gave me a high five, the third was Paul and he must have thought I was cute cause he gave me a kiss on the cheek . George was the last to get out and he was also the only one who talked to me in this scene. He looked at me and said, "What do you think you're doing? Come on!" and grabed my arm. I looked as to why and all the kids were climbing the fence He took me inside the building and through a bunch of press to a hallway where they split up and knew where to meet. I ran off with John for some reason. I noticed three girls had also followed and had noticed me with them. John turned a corner and ducked into the bathroom and hid by standing on a toliet . The girls ran up to me and asked which way they had gone. I pointed a way that none of them ahd gone and they ran off. John from inside the stall whispered loud enough so that i could hear, "Are they gone?" I told him they were and he came back out. He whistled a little Beatles tune.Well the other three poped out of hiding. George poped out from behind a curtain on a window in the hallway, Paul peeked out from behind the girls bathroom door and Ringo "bounced" up from behind a huge sitting plant. I just looked at them funny. Paul came up to me and offered me his arm. I took it and I realized we were in the hotel they stayed at when they first visited America. I also realized that that meant we were in NY. They took me to their Hotel room and I sat down on the couch in the room . Ringo offered me a drink and i said, "sure just a coke". He got it for me and the others got their "Beatle Drinks" and we just sat there talking. Then Brian came in and asked what I was doing there and I almost had to leave but they piped up, "It's our new friend Karen." I was shocked and waved at Brian. He nodded and left. Paul looked at me and said, "Hey! We're on the Ed Sullivan Show tonight and we wanted to know if you'd like to come watch us I've got a icket for a front row seat and two back stage passes." I was like, "Oh Yeah! I'd love that!" and he handed me the stuff. They then told me that if I wanted I could get there when they got there and just "hang" with them till the show started. I told them sure and John said, "Well then there's a car waitin'. Come on!" So I rode down the elevators with them and got into the car and we drove to the CBS studios and went backstage cause I was with them so naturally I got in with them. Ed himself came back and I was introduced. He told them they had about two hours before the show and so they had to run out and rehearse. I was left alone in the dressing room with alll their ciggarettes and the suits they were going to wear that night. I just couldn't hold back my happiness any longer. I shouted, "Oh My God! I can't believe I'm here!" and calmed down. Ten Minutes passed and they came back singing with guitars and Ringo on his own with his drumsticks. They were singing I Want To Hold Your Hand and I just about passed out with it being my fave song. They came back in the room and George just ploped down next to me and his guitar gave off a little "Ztwang". He was like, "Oh shit, didn't mean for that to happen." I just laughed. Paul whispered in my ear, "We've got to go on soon and we need to change" and winked at me! I started cracking up and said, "OK Paul. I get it I'll go find my seat." He said that he was sorry about me having to leave and that I could come back right after they had finished the second half of the show. I told him I was "alright" with that and left to find my seat all the while hearing them shout "Bye Karen! See you in a little while!" I found my seat and the girl sitting next to me had already come herself. I said hello and we started talking. I found out her name was Mary and she said that it was her life long dream to meet them. I told her that I had a way and that they had approved it. She said, "OH HOW?" and I showed her the back stage passes. She screamed and I said, "hush or they'll hear you. They told me to surprise them with someone else." She hushed and I handed her one telling her not to let anyone else know. were arriving. 15 minutes passed and Ed came out and told us that the show would be starting in 5 minutes and for the balcony people to be very careful when they stood up to dance or scream or whatever. Five minutes passed and the theme music played and Ed came out and we all applauded and he told us act after act and then finally just before the first half of the sow was over he said, "now ladies and gentlemen, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. Here they are, THE BEATLES!" the audience was in an uproar of screams and they walked out and Paul waved directly at me and Mary. I blew him back a kiss and he smiled. They put on the best concert I'd ever seen and then they went back stage again and Ed came back out and said a little something that I can't remember and then a comercial break and he talked to us again during it. Well after that he reintroduced the Beatles, they did the second half of the show and I told Mary to come on. We went to the back stage door and showed the guard the passes and he let us in and I led Mary to the dressing room. I knocked and they yelled all at once, "It's Open!" we went in and they all jumped up and hugged me . I introduced Mary who was litterally freaking out and they calmed her down. We had a nice little chat and then my stupid alarm went off and I woke up. I went to school very happy and well Like I said It's a Very Very Very long dream, But it's a real nice one to have lol. Luv Ya all, Kary From: RollUp4MMT > I too have had very odd dreams about the Beatles, in fact I've had dreams where I am one of the Batles. I dreamt that I was Paul, and that it was during late 67 and they were they were trying to figure out the MMT album cover. Well they told me to wait outside the curtain and let the other three in to see the idea for the cover. They came back out totally in shock They were Like You're gonna love this Paulie! So I went in and almost passed out. It was a lovely shade of red and white animals of every song they'd ever wrote with an animal in it there were walruses, bulldogs, octopuses, black birds, blue jays, ect..............and other references of beatles songs that had been written or would be. all in white on a blood red background lining along the sides of a Long and Winding Road. it was so cool! I totaly freaked! I was screaming and jumping and I ran back out and hugged the others for no reason other than I was totaly freaked and had no clue what i was doing! lol But that's it. Bye

Special comments on the whole Peace or Piece issue -

Note From The President: Hi Everyone - I think that it's about time that I stopped this. We already had the person who first brought up the topic quit because he didn't mean for any of this to start when he wrote it. I should have stopped this long before this - but finally I am. There will be no comments about this topic in the newsletter anymore - I think that these 2 following comments should be read because it pretty much sums up this whole problem. Thank you. -Meg President From: Jade324 I would like to make a comment about this "Peace/Piece of Mind" debate. First of all John wrote music for people to enjoy and not to fight about, since of course it is open to anyone's personal interpretation, like an opinion, and all this fighting isn't very peaceful, more pointless, so think of it this way, it's for John, and we want to carry on his dream of a peaceful world, right? Okay, having said that I hope that maybe everyone can just shut up about this, it's getting really boring. Peace, Love, Lennon, @lice From: Aplskruff I can't believe that people are actually arguing this peace/piece thing. I asked the source, and got the correct answer!! O.K., now you're saying to yourselves, sure, just ask John, right? Well, I did and so can you!!! All you have to do is look at the lyrics on whatever you have, album, CD or cassette. These are the copyrighted words of John Lennon, as he wrote them and how he wanted them to be read, sung, and interpreted. It is PEACE of mind. END OF DISCUSSION!!!! Peace and Love, Aplskruff From: walehead@bellatlantic.net (Ms.Kite) I'd like to reply to the article by Windchild about Mark Chapman. He was given 20 years in jail. And it was in Dec. on 1980 that he shot John. So, in other words unless Chapman was bad in jail, he will be out and free in the year 2000. Does that scare anyone besides me?? For all we know he could go stalk Yoko, since he has made various calls to her from jail all of which she does not answer. What will he do? Will he kill another harmless person? Or go for someone like the president or a celebrity to gain more attention? We don't know! And it looks like we'll just have to wait until Dec. of 2000 to find out. ~Ms.Kite walehead@bellatlantic.net http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/9842 http://www.angelfire.com/nc/NowhereLand/ From: TeaMocker << From: Essex83 I would like to respond to the LSD argument. You said that John Lennon said it wasn't about LSD! Of course John Lennon wouldn't say, " yeah this song is about LSD because I like the experience!" Do you want the drug police to get him. We REALLY don't know so.........................don't state a fact they may be untrue!>> John stated in more than one interview that the idea came from a picture his young son drew of a friend in school. Julian brought it home and told him it was his friend Lucy, in the sky -- with diamonds. It sounded like a good idea. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? Simply because it happens to abbreviate to L.S.D, there is definitely some hidden meaning. The patch Paul wore on his arm on the Sgt. Pepper cover (well, it wasn't Paul, but it represented Paul) read O.P.D, so fans decided it was "Officially Pronounced Dead" and the real Paul was dead. It was a city's police department. You see how well everything works out when you pay attention to people? I have a scanned picture of the drawing Julian brought home. Would that help? It is, indeed, Lucy, in the sky... with diamonds. Kristina From: Jbeatles I think issue 11 was shorter. I liked it that way. the other issues were too long and boring. this one was a good length. Also , if u find out the teen who wrote the first unknown writer article, p lease send their email address to me. Thanx! A piece of peace to you.
