Adding Extras

Now that you have the basics down, you might want to add some extra things to make it even better.  The things on this site are only some of the cool things you can find to put on your site.

Guestbook - Many people like to put a guestbook on their sites to give their visitors a chance to leave their comments before they leave their site.  These are a few free guestbooks you can get from the net:

Guestworld - Probably the most used free guestbook service on the net right now.  Known before as Lpage, this site has undergone many changes besides it's new name.  It is much more reliable and very simple to use as well.  It will give you some simple html to place on your site when you sign up for a free account with them, and editing entries, and the actually gbook itself is a snap too.

Dreambook - This is also a good guestbook provider.  If guestworld isn't for you, you might want to check this one out.

ToonzBook Guestbook - While I don't have one myself, I really like these guestbooks.  They're perfect if you just need a simple but fun type of guestbook for your site.  In addition to letting users input their comments and info, it also allows them to select a cartoon character to acompany there message in your book in a unique way.

Spin - This site provides a simple, easy to create guestbook, but it doesn't offer many features.

Counter - Another nice thing to have on your page is a counter.   Some free web site providers provide their own counter, but if yours doens't, then you might want to consider getting one.

Web Stat Story - This is one of the most used counter programs.  It lists your site by catagory depending on your daily and overall hits.  The actual number of hits you have will not show up on your page, instead a button for the company will load to load your hit into yours stats.  Well worth a look if this sounds like something you'd be interested in adding to your site.

The Ultimate Counter - The site offers over 500 different styles of counters for free.   If you use one of them, a small banner will be attached under it. If you must get rid of the banner, there is a one time fee of $10.  Compared to many others, this seems like a good deal.  I have not tried this so I am not sure how well it works, but it appears to be reliable.

BoingDragon's Web Counters - This site has been around a little while.  It offers many animatied counters in the form of dragons, fairies, frogs, many other things.  Really worth checking out, you mind just find one that goes perfect with your page.

LE FastCounter - This is a small counter that seems to work nicely on any page.  It's easy to setup, and if you are looking for a nice little counter for you site, this might just be the one for you.

FreeCount - This site offers free counters, as well as time and date scripts.  If you are looking for something simple but nice, check out this site.

WebTracker - This site offers not only a counter, but with that it offers stats and info about who is coming to your site.

NedStat - Here you will find yet another free little counter.  I haven't used this myself, so I can't say how well it works, but if you are still looking for a counter, why not give this one a shot?

Message Board - I'm sure you've seen them on at least one page before, a lot of sites, especially ones on a certain topic, like to have a place for their vistors to talk and meet each other.  A message board is the perfect place to do that.  By using one of the following sites, you can setup your own.

EZBoard - This is a fairly new site.  They give you a lot of control over everything about your board from muliple topics to background color.  This is the one I currently use, and I am very happy with it.  It gives you all of the options you need, and the best part is it's free!

Inside the Web Message Boards - I used to use this service.  They are pretty good and they just made some good improvements.  If you just need a simple board, then you should try this one.

Ultimate Bulletin Board - Now, with this one, you have to download and install it to your site.   This may be a problem for a lot of people depending on your site provider and how comfortable you are working with things like that.  It's still worth being checked out if you are interested.  I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to in the furture.
