Sweet Horizons Interview

Megsplace.com was my first interview I have ever done and I think it went pretty well and she could handle me taking awhile to write the questions. I got my ideas for the questions off her site and just surfing the net in general. Overall, she did an excellent job and check out her sites they are really nice!

1. What made you create a website?

I started making my site Meg's Place when I was about 13 years old.  This was
the time that being online was just beginning to become a common household
thing.  I just did it as a hobby and as something to play around with, but it
eventually grew bigger and bigger.  It was always about having fun with it,
making it for myself but also for everyone else to get something out of
hopefully.

2. Where did your ideas come from to make the content up for the site?

Basically whenever an idea came into my head that I could use for my site I
would work on it and add it  This worked well and because the site developed
over time I was never overly concerned about a certain amount of content
being put together all at once.  I found forcing ideas rarely worked.  Things
were much more successful when I was able to creatively come up with ideas
over time and implement them into my site.  Also, what was going on in my
life also always played a major role on what was put into the site as well as
how much time/effort was put into it.

3. How has your website progressed since the making of the site?

Wow, well it's progressed incredibly.  Since my site has been around for
about 5 years now, with more and more being added over time, it's grown
immensely since it all began.  I believe it's always been about reflecting
myself into it, so now that I'm older it basically reflects my growing up
teen years in a very unique way that most people don't have to show.  It
displays the way my tastes, ideas, interest, etc changed over the course of
these 5 years as well.

4. What are your hobbies?

Currently I enjoy design, music, concerts, spending time with friends,
digital photography, and writing.

5. Tell me more about your fetishes on your webpage?

Well, the name can imply many things, but the way it is used with my site it
is a section of Meg's Place devoted to favorite things of mine, such as
favorite cartoon characters and hobbies, collections, or other interests.
This site hasn't developed much recently because this past year and a half
has been a large transition period for me leaving high school and having my
first year of college, so of course many of my tastes and interests have
changed greatly in part due to this

6. Why did you create www.digitalreflex.net ?

Digital Reflex is my newest project.  During this transition period in my
life, I felt that while I still wished to maintain Meg's Place, I needed an
outlet in which I could post my thoughts, ideas, feelings, and even examples
of my work.  Overall, it is a much more mature site with a different targeted
audience.  While Meg's Place is made for everyone, kids especially in many
aspects now, Digital Reflex is for slightly older audiences.  I allow myself
to be totally free with Digital Reflex, which is very helpful to me
personally and professionally at this point in my life and in my education.
Meg's Place I will always keep 100% kid safe, as it has always been, and hope
to develop Meg's Place with this in mind in the future.

7. Tell me a little bit more about college and how the classes are going?

College is great.  I attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
College is a big change for anyone I think, but it's an adjustment that most
people will love.  I can tell anyone who is waiting to reach this point in
life that your freshman year of college is one of the biggest transition
periods in your life, but it's one that is well worth it.  My classes are
great and so are all the amazing people I've met and friends that I've made.
I'm looking forward to my remaining 3 years after I complete this semester.

8. What are your fav websites?

Well, that is a tough question actually.  I enjoy surfing the web, even
though I don't have as much time to do it as I would like.  I love checking
out personal websites.  Recently I've been looking at a lot of design and
college age and up personal sites especially since that is the area in which
I've been designing most with lately.  I really don't have any one or two
specific sites to mention though, as I come across new and amazing ones
almost everyday it seems.

9. How do you feel about woman in men positions in the work place?

Well, first of all, I don't believe that women are in men's positions.  No
gender owns any one specific field or profession.  Some fields do still have
men outnumbering women, but this is quickly becoming less and less the case
even in the most skewed fields.  In the field of computers and design, I
would say men definitely still outnumber women over all, but each year this
is seeing a change making the difference much more balanced.  I think in the
future this balance will be achieved.  Women need to be aware of these
issues, but they don't need to feel it's a fight or struggle just because of
their gender  Most fields are based on skill and other issues.  Yes, there
is discrimination and there is never an easy way to take that, but the world
is starting to learn to respect the equality in genders.  It's an amazing
time for men and women to be growing up and living in.

10. Do you feel that men sports get more money then the woman's sports?

That would depend on the sport, but one of the areas you do still see the
most skew with men verses women is sports.  It's true that sports such as
baseball and football have only high-end professional levels and teams.
However, sports such as soccer and many others seem to have women as the
primary leading figures.  I think one of the most inspiring things to see
happen with sports the terms of this issue was the addition of the
professional women's basketball teams.  This quickly gained a lot of
popularity and I think it should be a sure sign that even things with sports
are learning to become more equal over time.  But I would definitely say with
sports there is still a way to go before everything is equal for all sports.

11. What is your fav movie, food, music, band, group, store, makeup counter,
fitness routine, and etc?

Well, let's see - that's a lot of stuff!  I have a lot of favorite movies,
which include Star Wars, Run Lola Run, Pi, The Net, Hackers, 10 Things I Hate
About You, Fight Club, Ever After, and Speed.  As for food, I'm a vegetarian.
I like a lot of pastas, cheeses, and fruits.  Of course a favorite would
have to be pizza.  I am into a lot of music, mostly rock / alternative, but
my musical tastes have expanded a lot in the last year.  Some of my favorite
groups are Stroke 9, Marvelous 3, Dave Matthews Band, Dexter Freebish,
American Hi-Fi, Lifehouse, Good Charlotte, Oasis, Pat McGee Band, Shades
Apart, Splender, SR-71, and many others.  As for favorite brands/labels I
like Pacific Sunwear, Urban Outfitters, Aeropostale, Sketchers, Doc Martins,
Revon, Maybelline, etc..

12. Since I know you have done an interview, how did your first interview go?

When I found out that someone from a local newspaper in my area wanted to do an article about me, I was honestly shocked.  I had been featured in magazines and done a few online interviews before, but this felt so different.  The woman who found me through my site and who actually came to my house to interview me was amazing.  I felt like she was interested in my work and I was very pleased when I read the article.  She made the interview very easy for me.  The other thing that sent this so far apart from the other interviews I had done was a seperate photographer came to my house prior to the interview to take some photos.  It was a really nice thing to go through for this article.  In the end, when it came out I was even more shocked that it made the front page of that section of the newspaper.  I never expected anything like that to ever come from the creation of Meg's Place

13. In High School, how were your grades?
And did you earn any scholarships?I maintained a 3.6 GPA in High School and never got a grade below a B in anyclass.  I got an $8,000 a year scholarship through my college which I geteach of my four years here.  I also earned two small one time scholarships atmy high school graduation from local scholarships.

14. Do you feel that pop starts portray a bad image to young girls?

Well, that would depend on who specifically you are talking about in saying
pop stars.  I think that some can cause younger girls to think they need to
have a perfect body, a perfect face, and no flaws in order to be successful
and happy in life.  This, of course, is not true at all.  But sometimes this
is the message girls will get out of stars and celebrities.  Those who use
their star status to speak out about important issues that need to be
addressed, especially to young and teen girls, are at least using their
status for a good purpose.

15. How does the internet help you in your daily life?

Wow well for me personally in many ways.  It's a way to stay in touch with
old friends, especially from high school, as well as to meet new and amazing
people I would never have the opportunity to meet in life otherwise.  It is
also a great learning resource and research tool.  I also use it as a way to
express myself, show my work, and vent my feelings through my websites.
Also, it is a form of entertainment too.  And then of course my major and my
profession revolve around it.  There are so many ways to use the internet and
I believe it is a great resource for just about anyone to at least some
degree.
