Special thanks to this site for
reviewing my site first and giving it such a good mark!
Sound Off 2000 is pleased to announce the creation of our
new Site Review series. The first site to be reviewed by us is Meg's Place. This site was chosen to be reviewed by Berly.
- Why this site was chosen
- So far, only two people have been notified that their site
was selected to be reviewed on Sound Off 2000, and Meg, owner of Meg's Place, was the first to respond. I chose to
review this site because it's material is family friendly and entertaining, the page
design works well, and there is always something there to see and do.
- The Main Page
- The main page of Meg's
Place is very clean and easy to navigate. Everything is set up in an organized manner,
and looks like it belongs where it is placed. The main subdirectories are arranged near
the top of the page in a table with an icon and link. Other odds and ends are arranged
near the bottom with miscellaneous arranged in the middle. You can access just about
everything on the site from the main page. The first impression that the page gives is one
of great organization and careful planning.
- The Subdirectories
- There are way too many subdirectories for me to list, but I
chose a few to give more detail on.
- Causes
- Meg's Place supports
an unbelieveable number of causes, from free speech to AIDS awareness to child abuse to
Save the Whales. You can tell that Meg's Place does
not support these causes just for the heck of it; Meg has built her whole site around
these values.
- The Button Board
- The Button Board is a page with over 600 small blue buttons
on it. Click on any one of the buttons and you'll be taken to a different site on the
internet. If you're ever bored, this is a great place to start. What a wonderful idea.
- Cool Links
- Most personal websites have a link page with contacts to a
few friends' pages or their email or homepage server's page. Again, if you are bored, this
is a great place to start. Meg has carefully chosen sites she finds most interesting,
entertaining, and useful.
- Nut Stuff
- Nut Stuff is a directory of free graphics for use on
personal homepages. If you want something that's not up there, you can email Meg and if
you're really nice she might make it for you. ;)
- FAQ
- For a site this big, a FAQ is very fitting for Meg's Place. If you read it you'll find out how the
site operates, what drives her to build it, and what to look for in the future. A good
place to start for first time visitors.
- The Overall Operation
- Meg's Place is very
clean and organized. For the amount of material contained on the site, the loading time is
excellent. Everything on the site is suitable for children and adults of all ages. Meg has
also done a very good job at giving credit where credit is due. She has gracefully
incorporated the link-back buttons of all the software and services she uses to the proper
spots. Meg's Place is easy to navigate, and there
is a 'back' or 'home' link on almost every page. The design works for the material.
Everything falls into place very nicely and there is a smooth transition between the
pages.
- On a Personal Note
- One of the things I'd like to give credit to Meg for is the
way she has created a site that can be enjoyed by just about anybody, but has Megan Miller
written all over it. Everything on her page is her's; the colors, the layout, the font,
the links, and the material. Everything on her site has value to her, and is there for a
reason. She is very honest in that she will only support a cause that she believes in or
list a link she likes. If you read her FAQ, you will find out that even though she is 16
years old and her page is geared towards a younger crowd, she thoroughly enjoys what she
does and how she does it. Kudos to Meg for that.
